In nine museum rooms, you are taken on a time trip through a monumental building. You'll feel like you're in another century in the historic kitchen and the protectors' room. Who were allowed to come here?
In the refectory – the old dining hall of the orphan girls – you come face to face with a colossal triptych. What is that thing doing here?
In the cellar with its old vaults, you can see what the children did in their free time. Join in!
In the Spinzaal (Spinning Room), you meet Elisabeth of Culemborg. Who was she?
In the dormitory, you can hear from the orphan children themselves how they look back on their time in the orphanage. A visit to the garden next to the orphanage is a wonderful way to conclude your visit.
Guided Tour
Would you like to hear more about the orphanage? Then book a group tour of the museum. One of our guides will tell you everything about the building and its history. Request your tour at least two weeks in advance so we have time to arrange a guide for you. A tour lasts approximately 1 hour. We have a maximum group size of 20 people. The cost is € 65.00, excluding admission tickets. Information and reservations: info@weeshuismuseum.nl.
Families and Children
There is plenty to do for families and children at the museum. Play the dice game, dress up as an orphan, and discover much more.
City Walk
Complete your visit to Culemborg with a city walk through the historic city centre.
You can also listen to the media tour with eight stories on your phone: Stemmen uit de vrijstad. At eight locations in the city, people from the seventeenth century in Culemborg tell about their lives.
The Orphanage Museum has developed five programmes for primary education. These are aligned with the core objectives and the historical canon of the Netherlands. Each programme consists of two lessons:
You can also choose to only do the lesson in the museum. Primary schools in Culemborg can participate in the lessons via Brede School Culemborg.
