The Elisabeth Weeshuis Museum is seeking a Volunteer Housekeeping Assistant
The Elisabeth Orphanage, founded in 1560, provided shelter for a total of approximately 700 orphan children from Culemborg and the immediate vicinity over four centuries. The Elisabeth Weeshuis Museum preserves and exhibits the history of the orphan children and the city's history with great care. Many art treasures from Culemborg are part of the collection.
Keeping the museum and the collection clean is a very important part of our activities. Do you enjoy cleaning and would you like to do it in a museum, where you contribute to a wonderful experience for visitors? If so, you are most welcome as a Volunteer Housekeeping Assistant.
...
What will you be doing? For this position, we are looking for someone who is meticulous, careful and handy, and available on Mondays, once every two weeks. You will help keep the exhibition halls and the museum collection clean. This includes dusting and wiping surfaces and glass display cases, vacuuming, and tasks such as mopping and occasionally washing windows. You will also contribute to cleaning the collection objects, which is essential for preserving our collection as well as possible for the future.
Due to the value and/or historical significance of the objects (and the building itself), cleaning is always carried out in collaboration with our permanent Housekeeping Assistant and the Collection Manager. A museum cleaning protocol is also followed. And to avoid any misunderstanding: cleaning of spaces such as toilets or offices is not included. The museum is housed in a beautiful monumental building. A dedicated team of volunteers is associated with our museum, who among other things welcome visitors, assist with collection management, keep the museum and collection clean, and carry out building maintenance. You will become part of our Collection Team. We organise a fun volunteer outing every year, to which you will be invited. As a volunteer at the Elisabeth Weeshuis Museum, you contribute to culture, education and tourism in Culemborg!
Do you think this might be for you? Are you available for approximately four to six hours every other week on Mondays, and are you handy, meticulous and precise? Would you enjoy taking care of a centuries-old building and fragile objects? Then send an email to Maartje Hagenbeek at collectie@weeshuismuseum.nl, and we will make a no-obligation appointment to meet. We hope to hear from you!

Welcoming visitors with hospitality is one of the most important tasks in our museum. Do you enjoy interacting with people and would you like to share your enthusiasm about our museum with our visitors? Do you enjoy being responsible for the museum during your shift? If so, you are most welcome as a Volunteer Hostess or Host.

What will you be doing? As a host or hostess, you are the point of contact for our visitors. You greet visitors, provide information and answer questions. You sell admission tickets and items from the museum shop. You open and close the museum independently, for which you will receive instructions in advance. During a shift, you always work together with a fellow volunteer. Every two months, we have a reception meeting where ongoing matters and developments are discussed. You will become part of our dedicated volunteer team. You will be invited to our annual volunteer outing.
Do you think this might be for you? Are you hospitable and do you enjoy interacting with people? Are you open to visitors and colleagues of different ages and cultural backgrounds?
Do you have an affinity with the history of Culemborg and/or the orphanage?
Are you available for a few afternoons a month and do you live in Culemborg or the surrounding area?
Then send an email to Patricia Pennink at info@weeshuismuseum.nl , and we will make a no-obligation appointment to meet.
We hope to hear from you!
